Mathew 5 – The Blessing

When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowd, He climbed a hillside, arrived at a quiet place sat down and taught the people… gosh! I feel like I was there… 😊.

This is what He said:

‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’ – First of all, what does it mean to be Blessed-This mean to be happy, to be envied and spiritually prosperous. Now in this context, poor in spirit means to be envied, happy and spiritually prosperous regardless of your outward condition, maybe you rate yourself insignificant, the bible promises the kingdom of heaven. This could also mean you are blessed when you are at the end of your rope, when you are faced with a lot of challenges. With less of you there is more of God.

‘Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted’ – What does it mean to mourn? It means to show deep sorrow or regret for someone or their death. It’s amazing how Jesus teaches that we are blessed even in a state of loss, we are comforted when we feel you have lost what is most dear to you, for only then can you be embraced by the one (and who is the one again? yh you got it right Jesus Christ) most dear to you.

‘Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth’ – If you investigate the word meek, you will find different meanings, adjectives, or synonyms for the word meek, but coming from a biblical perspective, what Jesus meant by a meek person is humble, teachable, someone who is truly and entirely dependent upon God. Jesus says they will inherit the earth. The message translation says, you are blessed when your content with just who you are- no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

By the way guys the message translation is my favorite bible translation I just find it simple and easy to understand, I mean we have other translations, but I am stuck with the message and maybe TPT…. Okay let’s go ahead…

‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied’ – Blessed are those who have a big appetite for the things of God the bible says you will be filled (satisfied)…and what will you be filled with? You will be filled with the drive, hunger, passion, zeal, willpower to chase after righteousness and the things of God.

Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy’ – Who are the merciful, those who are moved with compassion for others. So, if you are moved with compassion especially towards others, the bible says you will receive mercy when you need it. Can I hear an Amen at the back pls… lool!

‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God’- These are innocent at heart and minds. Those who centered their heart and minds right in God, the bible says they shall see God. This does not necessarily mean that they shall see God physically. It just that when you get your inside world centered in Christ, then you can see God in the outside world.

‘Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God’ – These are people who love to create calmness amongst people and in situations. Jesus says you are blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of competing or fight. Hmm… I like this one.

‘Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’ – This simply means you are blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The kingdom of heaven is yours; it would drive you deeper into God’s kingdom.

‘Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you on my account, Rejoice and be glad for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you’ – Count your self blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit Jesus. The msg translation puts it this way, the truth is to close for comfort, and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens, for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heavens applaud and know that you are in good company.

Wao!! Guys this is so satisfying knowing that Jesus has a blessing for us for who we are and at every situation or circumstance of our lives.
