Jesus Gives True Rest

Rest is a promise and a provision made by God. We all have our daily routines/activities that we do through the day and it is expected that we rest at the end of the day. The bible says in Psalm 127:2, ”It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat: for God gives rest to his beloved ones”. Now you can see that if Jesus is concerned about resting our physical body, don’t you think He is more concerned about rest on our mind, heart and even your soul. As i reiterated earlier ”Rest is a promise”, and we are promised rest from Genesis to Revelation even eternal rest!!

The book of Matthew 11:28 show us that Jesus is calling on all who labor and are heavy laden and He will give us rest. The AMP puts its this way ”come to me all you who are weary and heavily burdened” What does it mean to be weary and be so heavily burdened?(I believe we can all relate to this). This means to be exhausted in strength, endurance, vigor or freshness. Jesus is very concerned about our state of mind and well being as children of God. There are various scriptures in the bible where Jesus has repeatedly assured us of our victory and rest in Christ Jesus. In the book of John 16:33,”Jesus says, ”I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace, In this world you will have trouble but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” There are times in our lives where we reach breaking points this could be in our career, relationships, personal lives and business but as children of God we are not a people without HOPE.

The bible is encouraging us to come to Jesus all who are exhausted, confused, indecisive,in fear and heavily burdened and Jesus will give us REST(Peace,Ease or Refreshment). God wants us to have rest in our minds; He want our souls to be refreshed, our heart to be still not pacing,He wants us to be calm not perturbed. To have rest also mean to be very confident in God no matter the situation or circumstance, you are still no matter the pressure and knowing fully well that God is with you. If you are tired and struggling Jesus can give you rest. This also describes the path to God the father, but it is not one of labour and hardwork. Following Jesus frees us from carrying the burden of our own sin because He has already done that work.

As children of God, all we need to do is to put our faith, hope and trust in Jesus. To take His yoke is to commit to Him and put ourselves under the protection and authority of Christ!
